Values & Philosophy

Growing up in a country with continuous economic and political instability made me develop an interest in learning more about the profound impact that high stress environments can have over our general well-being. Despite the pain and suffering that can come from these situations, I have also experienced and witnessed how even the most adverse events can lead us to discover resources and strengths that we did not realize we had until then. This has made me honor and value our capability as human beings to learn and develop strategies to positively adapt to stressful events in our lives.

As an immigrant, coming from a collectivist culture, I have also realized that this capability to adapt positively to change and adverse experiences is more likely to occur when social support is available through our family system, friends, and/or community. I believe in the importance of human connections as a form of healing and as a way to increase our sense of belonging, feeling loved, supported, and safe.

Through the relationship in the therapeutic room, I will accompany you in your healing process and identify together what works best. I view therapy as the process of putting together a puzzle with many pieces that resemble our identities, experiences, relationships, and all the different parts of who we are. My role as your therapist is to accompany you in this process of putting together some pieces of the puzzle through curiosity and reflection. I believe you are the expert in your life and that I can use my training and experience as tools that can guide us both in this process. I like to provide a welcoming and caring environment that can facilitate the therapeutic relationship and where you can feel heard and seen as you are.

I have a passion for working with individuals struggling to adjust to life transitions, traumatic situations, a new culture, and stressful family dynamics. My personal experiences as an immigrant and once an international student, has made me develop an interest in working with young adults who are adapting to leaving their family behind, building new support systems, struggling with mental health, and acculturation difficulties which are common challenges faced, especially after moving away from their hometown.
