H.O.P.E. - A Psychotherapy Workshop for Suicide Attempt Survivors

H.O.P.E. - A Psychotherapy Workshop for Suicide Attempt Survivors

August 22nd, Tuesday, 7:00-8:30pm

1300 W. Belmont, Lower Level

Sometimes we are left feeling more alone after a suicide attempt than we did prior to the attempt. We may have been taught to believe that suicide is a “personal and deliberate choice.” In retrospect, we may understand that we experienced moments of crisis leading up to the attempt. Still, we are left with complex feelings and thoughts---often with no outlet to share these. In this workshop, we hope to provide a supportive and safe space in which to process past experiences with suicide, discuss current social and cultural perceptions of suicide, and connect with others sharing similar experiences.

Through discussion and experiential activities, we will
1. Explore the intersection between our own perspectives of suicide and the social and cultural influences around us
2. Explore the stories around our past suicide attempt(s) as a way to create transformation and empowerment
3. Establish internal and external resources---within our bodies and outside our bodies---to build strength and hope

Workshop Fee: $35

This series is targeted at men who identify as gay or bisexual, or who are uncertain about their sexual orientation, and who are currently or have previously been married to women. Each session of the discussion series will be loosely arranged around a specific topic as listed below:

Because this is a discussion series and not a psychotherapy group, insurance cannot be used. Each session will cost $50 per participant, but participants can receive a discount of $40 off the cost of the entire series by registering and prepaying for the entire series at once, so the cost of the entire series would be reduced to $160.
