Kanika 300x280Values and Philosophy

I strongly believe in every individual's ability to bring about meaningful changes through self-awareness. A trusting relationship between a client and therapist offers a safe space to reflect on our experiences, our histories that we carry with us, and the way in which these histories impact our present experiences.

As a therapist, I feel honored to bear witness to each individual’s journey towards living more authentically. By exploration of our subjective values and beliefs, we come to understand the meaning to our relationships; both with ourselves and others in the world. It is my understanding that each individual’s perspective is unique and valid, therefore, it is important for me to acknowledge and understand diverse identities and cultures of each individual and how it shapes their experience of living.

My search to integrate different psychological perspectives brought me from India to Chicago. My clinical approach has been influenced by both Eastern and Western philosophies that help restore balance to individuals' physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.

Training and Experience

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Illinois. I identify as a Multicultural and Multilingual therapist, and offer therapy in Hindi and English. For over five years I have provided services to individuals, families, and couples in community based mental health settings, as well as private practice.

I received my Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. During my clinical internship at Anixter Center, I developed a strong foundation for working with trauma survivors and was deeply moved by the resiliency and strength of my clients.

I received my Bachelors of Arts Degree from Nagpur University, India. I also have experience in working with various NGO’s in India that focus on empowerment of marginalized populations through psycho-education and awareness programs.

In the fast pace world today, it is often difficult to take a moment to reflect on our internal experiences and understand the influence of the external. I think of therapy as a space that is co-created by a client and a therapist to acknowledge and explore these internal personal experiences beyond “labels and diagnoses.” The base of this exploration is rooted in trust, safety, empathic understanding, and validation of individuality.

It is through this exploration that together we can honor lived experiences; challenge values and beliefs that have limited our view of ourselves and the world; make decisions that will allow us to live more freely and authentically.

I utilize Eastern therapies in collaborative with Western approaches to facilitate this process of self-awareness and self-acceptance.
