Psychotherapist and Clinical Supervisor

mistymajorPhilosophy and Values

I love stories. Therapy is a process of storytelling.
In telling our stories, we share experiences that were previously unknown. Therapy provides an opportunity to be seen and heard, which can feel vulnerable and scary, yet affirming. Our stories are complex and intersectional due to the systems that impact our everyday life. I believe that growth and change occur when we give ourselves permission to explore all parts of our identities, without prioritizing one over the others. I believe that therapy invites us to be flexible and curious about all that we can be, instead of trying to be what we “should be”. Life is about the journey and it is always an honor to be allowed to join someone’s journey.

The amazing thing about therapy is that there’s no one way to do it. Everyone is different and different approaches work for different people. At the beginning of our work together, we’ll discuss expectations of therapy, fears and concerns, and goals. You have the freedom to decide where you would like to start with your story and how I can participate in it.
I value building relationships and community. I believe that there is healing in relationship. Together we’ll attempt to create a non-judgmental space in which we can both show our authentic selves without fear. In our work together, we will explore our relationship as a way to understand relationships that exist outside of the therapy room. Our relationship is valuable and with your permission, I hope to provide a different perspective on your story, which you may not have considered. I aspire to support you in creating a life that you feel is effective, healthy and worth living.

Education and Experience

Before joining Live Oak, I received my Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University. During my time there, I was a part of a program that provided free counseling primarily with communities of color and families with limited economic resources in Evanston. It was this experience that grew my passion for working with marginalized communities. Following my Master’s program, I worked for Community Counseling Centers of Chicago in Humboldt Park, working with children, families, couples, and adults with a wide range of mental health and substance use struggles. I then worked for Youth Outreach Services, working with adolescents struggling with substance use. It is in these experiences thus far that I began building an expertise around adolescent development, specifically adolescents who are involved in oppressive systems. Following this, I worked for Insight Behavioral Health Center in their adolescent Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization programs for mood and anxiety disorders. It is here where I built extensive experience in supporting people in managing suicidal ideation and self harm behaviors.
Throughout my work, I have been rigorously intentional about incorporating social justice practices for marginalized groups, specifically people of color and the LGBTQ community. It is in these experiences where I have witnessed an awe inspiring level of resilience in the human spirit. I continue this work here at Live Oak. I aspire to cultivate and witness all the ways that resilience presents in our work. I aspire to continue to grow as a therapist each day.
