Values & Philosophy

I view therapy as one among many pathways to explore, examine and be curious about ourselves and our lives. What is the story you tell yourself about who you are? What are the stories that have been written and told about you without your consent?

I believe our mental health is deeply impacted by these collective narratives, particularly in the context of our environment (e.g. home, community, land), our access to resources, our experiences of privilege and oppression, and our relationships to our families and communities. Therefore our work together will be centered in your wholeness, examining and holding how all of these positions and experiences have shaped, and continue to shape, your life story.

In our sessions I welcome you to release the pressure to be “fixed” or “cured”. I invite you to embrace a spectrum of wellness that can be embodied and practiced, without an expectation of perfection. I believe this practice of reconnecting to your body is vital in dismantling the harms of white supremacy. Depending on your goals, this may look like learning or strengthening techniques to reconnect to and soothe your body, developing firm and loving boundaries, and/or discovering how to co-create relationships with friends, family and community that feel nurturing and fulfilling.

My therapy practice is trauma-informed and pulls from a variety of models and theories, including Narrative, Liberation Health, and body-based therapies and rituals. I’m a white (Polish, Slovak, English, Welsh), queer, trans and non-binary social worker, survivor, plant dad and devoted cat parent. I strive to be authentic, honest, open-minded, and non-judgemental, and often integrate humor in my practice. I always welcome laughter and tears in session, whenever the mood may strike.
