Accessing Accessibility: A Primer on Navigating Ability Needs in a Therapeutic Context

August 18, 2023 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Trainer: Porter Green Fee: $60 CEUs: 3 (Live Oak offers CEUs for social workers, marriage and family therapists, professional counselors and psychologists through the Illinois Dept. of Financial and Professional Regulation. Live Oak has partnered with Centered Therapy Chicago to provide CEUs for psychologists.) Location: Zoom

Our state of wellness and our body’s capabilities are liable to change both over our life course and potentially at any moment due to unexpected events. The existential dread of this knowledge makes it easy for us to push aside the exploration and understanding of disability and those who are disabled. In this training you will build a broader understanding of what disability is and how it is defined in America. Through discussion and reflection you will build comfort and competency in discussing these topics as well as exploring ways to make your practice more accessible.

Goals of Today’s Training:

Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Define terms and become conversant in a person’’s first language.
  • Build comfort in discussing chronic illness, visible and invisible disabilities, and ableism.
  • Explore ways to make your clinical practice more accessible.

Live Oak offers a 15% discount for students to attend trainings. Please reach out to to receive a discount code for the workshop you’d like to attend.
