Practical Aspirations: Integrating behaviorism into relational therapy

Therapy is a journey to wholeness through relationship; the connection, vulnerability, and empathy found between two people is the foundational factor in making spaces where change can happen. But how do we support making change? Often the desire for movement is amorphous, general, or aspirational. It can be hard to take an idea like: “I wish I felt more fulfilled in my life” and make it more concrete and doable in the real world. In this training we will use human learning theory and ACT based conceptualization to build tools that enhance relational work through building personalized measurable, achievable behavioral goals.

Goals:

• Provide clinicians a basic understanding of human learning theory and ACT
• Describe the six ACT processes and explore the hexaflex.
• Explore conceptualization through a contextual behavioral lens.
