Values & Philosophy

It can take great courage to come to therapy and just making the appointment is the first step in creating change, starting to heal or becoming our best selves. Therapy is an incredible tool that we can use for self-reflection, support, and insight. It is a place to change what isn’t working and enhance what is. I truly view therapy as another means of taking care of oneself, just like eating well and getting physical exercise. I have chosen this profession to help others because of my own self-care in the form of a personal therapeutic journey, and due to the fact that who people are and why we do what we do greatly interests me.

I believe in the resiliency of the human spirit and that our most painful experiences through time and healing can produce some of our most powerful personal growth. However, often it is not a straight line to getting to a more positive space but rather full of ups and downs and starts and stops. My presence with you in therapy is to explore with and support you on your journey wherever you are and wherever you want to go.

My approach to working with you is to provide a compassionate environment that holds you as the expert of your life but allows for gentle insight and challenging as we develop a relationship of trust and determine the goals of our work together. Professional experiences thus far have shown me that often my role in the therapeutic relationship is to act as a mirror, reflecting back to you what might be harder to see to support new ways of thinking and being. My therapeutic style is integrative with elements of identifying and challenging thoughts and behaviors, highlighting and building on strengths, and exploring and understanding how the past affects the present. I will also utilize new approaches I am learning at Live Oak such as creative, expressive and body-centered therapies.
