Associate Marriage & Family Therapist
I am a therapist, a writer, and a storyteller. These identities all go hand in hand for me. Just as writing allows folks to tell their story in a way that feels true to them, therapy can provide a safe space to figure out who you are, separate from all of the voices telling you who you should be. Much of the work of both therapy and storytelling is around meaning-making. It’s an opportunity to look at your experiences and relationships, and to decide what role they played in your life and how they shaped your narrative.
Often, the patterns that challenge us are ones we developed from having to survive difficult or traumatic experiences. I believe that healing exists at the intersection of acceptance and change – two things that seem like opposites, but that are equally necessary and important. Multiple truths can exist at the same time without having to be contradictory. We all contain multitudes, and I’m here to honor every part of you that makes you who you are. I view you as the expert on your own experience, and I bring values of anti-racism, feminism, body-positivity, and fluidity to my work.
I like to focus on the strengths and supports you already have in place while introducing new skills and strategies. Everyone is unique, so nothing is one-size-fits all. Rather, I’m curious and collaborative, wondering and exploring what will work best for you. I find myself using a mix of directive modalities (like DBT, CBT, and solution-focused therapy) with more relational, process-oriented forms of therapy. I also love incorporating journaling activities and other creative interventions into my work. I seek to provide a non-judgmental, encouraging environment that both holds space for who you are and where you’re at while gently pushing you in the direction you want to grow.
