Folks within LGBTQIA+ communities often face multiple losses that are both named and unnamed. Some of these losses are personal while others are communal and even societal. These types of losses can include: loss of family of origin after coming out, death, pet loss, the ending of romantic relationships, and the loss of civil rights and personal liberties, especially with the rise of anti-trans and anti-choice legislation across the country. In this training, we will: discuss the different types of losses unique to LGBTQIA+ communities; explore different ways of personally and collectively processing and making meaning of these losses as therapists and with our clients; and share creative clinical interventions for folks dealing with grief and loss.
